Many visitors and meeting delegates love to go south at the
end of their stay in North America. The exotic allure of the semi-tropics of
Florida combined with an assurance of the comfort and quality of home is a
strong selling point. But not all visitors are enamored with the scenes of Key
West or South Beach, Miami. They may have stayed on Captiva Island, in Ft
Myers, Palm Beach or Clearwater and Orlando is “déjà vu all over again” as Yogi
Berra said!
So, what other fresh and “southern” destinations are there,
to be offered to a discerning tourist? How about our “other Riviera”, the coast
of the Gulf of Mexico from Bay St Louis in Mississippi to St Teresa in
Florida? This area is new to most
foreigners, quiet and purely American!
There are hundreds of hotels, motels and resorts that cater to all
budgets from luxury to economy. Activities from tennis, golf, volleyball,
riding to serious fishing, are sports offered in this area. To top it off, this
area has super beaches along the coast and many islands lining the Gulf shores:
Half Moon Island, Isle au Pitre, Cat Island, Ship Island, Horn Island, Round
Island, Petite Bois Island, Dauphin Island, Perdido Key, Santa Rosa Island,
Crooked Island, St Vincent Island, St George Island, Dog Island. Most of these
islands, many small, are unspoiled and pure, they are part of the “Gulf Island
National Seashore” and most can be visited with scheduled ferries.
Surprise your next meeting delegates with a barbeque of
local seafood or beef on a secluded island in the Gulf of Mexico.
